You Feel Hopeless When You Can't Trust Yourself

You feel hopeless when you can't trust yourself.

You feel a complete lack of control over your life because instead of being guided by purpose, you're guided by emotion.

The promises you make to yourself January 1st are meaningless January 2nd when your buddy tempts you with a good night out.

A promise is broken, and your willpower weekends. Your identity weakens.

Then every single next promise you make holds more doubt in your mind.

Because you have a memory of breaking a promise to yourself.

So you'll tell yourself you'll wake up early, you'll tell yourself you're going to quit drinking, you'll tell yourself you're going to get it together.... But in the back of your head you know it's not going to happen.

Then you say what's the point? I'm going to screw this up anyway.

You have a complete lack of confidence in yourself and then your family feels it. Your lack of self belief transfers to their lack of self belief in you.

There are no small broken promises. They all start small.

If you tell yourself you're not going to have dessert tonight don't have dessert tonight.

Don't say "well I just had dessert, it's not a big deal" first off, you've been just having dessert for a decade. Secondly, it only takes dessert for you to break a promise to yourself. It takes something as small as dessert for you to give up on the man you want to become.

The hardest promise to keep is the one you make to yourself.
