FBI Director Kash Patel testified on President Donald Trump's 2026 budget request for the agency before a Senate Appropriations subcommittee, saying the request, which would cut more than $500 million annually from the FBI's budget, was adequate to fulfill its mission. Senators from both parties questioned why that testimony differed from testimony delivered the day prior to House appropriators, where Mr. Patel said the FBI needed a $1 billion annual boost to its budget to meet its needs. Among the concerns voiced by Sens. Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), the subcommittee's chair and ranking member, and others on the panel were whether the FBI could accomplish its intended relocation away from its aging Washington, DC headquarters with about 5% of its annual budget cut.
