Dante's Inferno describes nine circles of Hell, each representing a different sin and associated punishment. These circles are: Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Wrath, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, and Treachery.
Here's a brief overview of each:
Limbo: For those who lived virtuous lives but did not know Christ, experiencing a life of separation from Heaven.
Lust: Where those who succumbed to carnal desire are blown around by fierce winds.
Gluttony: Sinners are tormented by rain and sleet, submerged in mud.
Greed: Those who hoarded or squandered wealth are forced to push heavy boulders.
Wrath: Those who were consumed by anger are tormented by the river Styx, where they battle each other.
Heresy: Heretics are trapped in burning tombs, facing eternal torment.
Violence: Violent individuals face various punishments, including being submerged in boiling blood.
Fraud: This circle is divided into various sub-circles, each with its own punishment for those who committed fraud.
Treachery: The worst circle, reserved for betrayers, where sinners are frozen in ice, with Satan at the center
