Today, on the second day of the Conclave, the new Pope was elected. The Pontiff was elected on the fourth ballot in the afternoon. He is Robert Francis Prevost. He chose the name Leo XIV. It is the first time that a North American Pope has been elected. Prevost, who will turn 70 on September 14, is originally from Chicago and was until now prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and president of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America.
