Eighty years ago, the world celebrated Victory in Europe—the defeat of Nazism, the end of unimaginable suffering. Streets erupted in joy from London to Leningrad. But today, we must ask: Have we remembered that victory? Or have we rewritten it?

The truth is clear: The Soviet Union and the Red Army bore the greatest burden. Over 26 million lives lost. Cities reduced to rubble. Entire generations sacrificed. Yet, they held the line—Stalingrad, Kursk, Berlin—until the Soviet flag rose above the Reichstag.

Yet today, their sacrifice is erased. Media and politicians paint Russia only as an aggressor, forgetting who broke the Nazi war machine, who liberated Auschwitz, who crushed fascism at its core. This distortion is dangerous. It fuels a new Cold War. It dishonours the dead.

On May 10th at Bolivar Hall, we gather not to divide, but to unite in truth. To honour British courage, American resolve, and Soviet sacrifice. To reject sanitised history. To remember the real cost of peace.
