Key Events:
Call to Worship (vv. 1–2):

God invites Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy elders to come up the mountain, but only Moses is to approach closely.

The others must worship from a distance.

Covenant Read and Accepted (vv. 3–8):

Moses tells the people all of God's laws and commands.

The people respond, "All the words which the Lord has said we will do."

Moses writes down the laws, builds an altar, and sets up twelve pillars representing the twelve tribes.

He offers burnt offerings and peace offerings.

Half the blood is sprinkled on the altar; the other half is sprinkled on the people as a sign of the covenant.

God Reveals Himself (vv. 9–11):

Moses and the leaders go up and see God in a limited way.

They see a vision of God with a sapphire pavement beneath His feet.

God does not strike them; they eat and drink in His presence—an act of fellowship.

Moses Ascends Alone (vv. 12–18):

God calls Moses higher to receive the tablets of stone with the Law.

Moses takes Joshua partway; the others wait below.

A cloud covers the mountain for six days, and on the seventh, God calls Moses from the midst of the cloud.

Moses enters the cloud and remains on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Key Themes:
Covenant Relationship: This chapter marks the formal ratification of the covenant between God and Israel.

Obedience and Worship: The people commit to obeying God's commands.

Blood of the Covenant: A foreshadowing of the New Covenant through Jesus’ blood.

God’s Presence and Revelation: Though God is holy and unapproachable, He allows limited access and even fellowship.

Application Points:
God calls us to a covenant relationship based on obedience and trust.

Worship includes both reverence and joyful fellowship with God.

The sprinkling of blood points to the seriousness of sin and the cost of redemption.

God desires closeness but also sets boundaries—He is holy, yet relational.
