On May 6, 2025, India launched a significant military operation named “Operation Sindoor,” targeting nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The Indian government stated that the airstrikes aimed at terrorist infrastructure responsible for the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 Hindu tourists. India emphasized that the strikes were precise, restrained, and deliberately avoided Pakistani military facilities.

Pakistan confirmed the missile attacks, reporting that they hit areas in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and eastern Punjab province. According to Pakistani security officials, the strikes resulted in the death of a child and injuries to two others, including damage to a mosque in Bahawalpur. Pakistan condemned the attacks as targeting innocent civilians and pledged to respond at a time and place of its choosing.

This escalation has raised significant concerns of a potential full-scale conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. Both nations have a history of conflict, and the current situation has prompted international concern over the possible ramifications of further hostilities.
