A ride inspired by a [previous follow-the-leader outing—https://youtu.be/TLnAM1qAUwQ], where the seed of this adventure was planted. This journey takes us beyond familiar paths—into exposed coastal roads, past suburban bays, and along arterial routes typically experienced only from behind the wheel.

Beginning at the raised walkways of the Pāuatahanui Wildlife Reserve, the trail winds through quiet estuarine paths and climbs into coastal suburbs. From there, it’s a thrilling traverse along SH59—where trains, cars, pedestrians, and cyclists share a narrow stretch carved between sea cliffs and rail lines.

Decent weather was essential for this ride, especially along the exposed coastline where the elements don’t hold back. But the reward? A golden descent into the beachside town of Paekākāriki and a diverse visual journey that’s as rewarding as it is challenging.
