He served as director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, from 17 August 2009 to 19 December 2021, serving under three presidents.[1][2] Collins announced his retirement publicly from the NIH on March 1, 2025, after 32 years of service.”

He then returned to Yale, where he was a fellow in human genetics at the medical school from 1981 to 1984.[13]”
