On 11 February 2013, at age 85, Benedict announced his resignation (effective 28 February 2013), citing a "lack of strength of mind and body" due to his advanced age. His resignation was the first by a pope since Gregory XII in 1415. And Juan feels was a CIA operation to move to a more "friendly" Vatican with Pope Francis.
