"Intention is what I call the basis of karma. Through intention, one performs deeds of body, speech, and mind. With pure intentions, actions lead to happiness. With impure intentions, actions lead to suffering."
-The Buddha, in the Angutara Nikaya

Lama Dawa Zangpo’s Commentary:
Here the Buddha is saying that it is the mind, it is our intention that leads us to act, to think, to say certain things, and our intentions govern the outcome. Our intentions steer our mind and our body and our speech. So, therefore, the Buddha is asking us to be mindful and to examine our intentions and to strive to have the best intentions for ourselves and for all other beings.
