Scrawled filefish are beautiful and bizarre
5 months ago
5.2K
A school of scrawled filefish make their way over the coral reef in Mexico. They are ornate fish with a flat profile and a large fan tail. They are capable of changing colour to mimic their surroundings and hide from predators. Scrawled filefish feed on algae, seagrass, hydrozoans, gorgonians (soft corals) , colonial anemones, and tunicates. Their mouth is bizarrely shaped, at the end of a pointed snout.
