In the interview given from his Florida residence, Trump said, "I'll be president for eight years. Two terms. I've always considered that very important."

Earlier, the 78-year-old US President had expressed his desire to serve a third or fourth term. He claimed he was "not kidding." Later, however, he said that his intention behind these statements was to "troll the fake news media."

The President's company, "The Trump Organization," is already selling hats with "Trump 2028" written on them for the upcoming presidential election campaign. This has fueled speculation that he might try to stay in office again after his second term ends in January 2029.

Trump said that many people have requested him to consider staying in office again.

The day after the 100th-day celebration of his second term, Trump said, "Many people want me to stay in office again. Although I don't know if I'm allowed to do that. I'm not sure if it's constitutional."

However, Trump said in the interview that many people are selling 2028 hats.

According to the 22nd Amendment of the US Constitution, a person can serve a maximum of two four-year terms as president of the United States, whether consecutively or not.

To change this rule, the constitution would have to be amended. This would require the support of two-thirds of the members of both houses of Congress, and then approval from three-fourths of the 50 states.

George Washington set the precedent of serving two terms in 1796. The two-term tradition was maintained for more than 140 years until Franklin D. Roosevelt became president in 1940. Roosevelt broke this tradition by serving a third term. He died a few months into his fourth term in 1945. This paved the way for the amendment of presidential term limits in 1951.
