Who is Jethro?
Jethro is Moses' father-in-law, a Midianite priest.

What happens?
Jethro hears of God’s deliverance of Israel and visits Moses, bringing Moses’ wife Zipporah and their two sons.

Jethro’s Response:
After hearing the full account of God's mighty acts in Egypt, Jethro praises the Lord and offers sacrifices, acknowledging Yahweh as greater than all gods.

2. Moses’ Burden and Jethro’s Advice (Exodus 18:13–27)
Moses’ Role:
Moses serves as the sole judge for the people, addressing disputes from morning till evening.

Jethro’s Concern:
He observes Moses becoming overburdened and warns, “What you are doing is not good.”

The Advice:
Jethro recommends delegating tasks by appointing capable, God-fearing, trustworthy men as leaders over groups (thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens).

Result:
Moses follows Jethro’s advice, easing his load and creating a more efficient system.

Key Lessons:
Testimony Matters:
Sharing God’s works encourages others to believe and worship (Jethro praises God after hearing Moses’ testimony).

Worship Across Cultures:
Jethro, a non-Israelite, acknowledges and worships the God of Israel.

Leadership Requires Delegation:
Effective leaders don’t do everything themselves. They empower others and share responsibility.

God Uses Outsiders for Insight:
Jethro, not an Israelite, gives crucial administrative advice—wisdom can come from unexpected sources.

Family Reconciliation:
Moses reunites with his family, showing the importance of relationships even in ministry.
