In this review, I test both low and high doses to give you an honest look at the effects and side effects of 7-OH. 7-Hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) is a terpenoid indole alkaloid derived from the kratom plant, Mitragyna speciosa. It was initially identified in 1994 and is a metabolite formed from mitragynine found in kratom. Similar to mitragynine, 7-OH binds to opioid receptors, but studies indicate that it does so with greater effectiveness. 7-Hydroxymitragynine (commonly known as 7-OH) is a naturally occurring, highly potent alkaloid found in the leaves of the kratom plant (Mitragyna speciosa), an evergreen native to Southeast Asia. It is a secondary metabolite, derived from the plant's main alkaloid, mitragynine. Although mitragynine is present in much larger amounts in kratom, 7-OH is far more potent on a per-molecule basis. This high potency makes it a key compound in kratom's effects, particularly in pain relief and other therapeutic uses. While it might seem like a potential alternative to traditional painkillers, it’s important to approach it with caution due to its strength and lack of regulation.
