Umgababa is a rural coastal town in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, about 36 km south of Durban, nestled between Illovo Beach and Umkomaas. Its name, of Zulu origin, translates to "place of jealousy," stemming from a historical tribal feud, or "my father's wife" in reference to the Umgababa River (also called Umtateni River). The area is tied to Zulu Chief Luthuli, with the current chief being Phathisizwe Philbert Luthuli.

Once a segregated beach for Black South Africans during apartheid, Umgababa has grown into a tourist spot, known for its golden sands, surfing waves, and cultural significance. It hosts a major New Year's Eve event featuring South African musicians and offers activities like hiking, diving (notably at a reef 8 km offshore), and beach games. The region also produces litchis, and a titanium mine once operated here but closed due to sea pollution.

Recent developments include the Zwelibomvu Vumazonke Rural Housing Project, launched in 2024 to address housing needs.
