Exodus 3

The Burning Bush (v.1–6):

Moses, now a shepherd in Midian, sees a bush that is on fire but not consumed.

God calls to him from the bush: “Moses, Moses!”

Moses responds, and God tells him to take off his sandals, for the ground is holy.

God identifies Himself as “the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

Moses hides his face in fear and reverence.

God’s Compassion and Plan (v.7–10):

God tells Moses He has seen the misery of His people in Egypt, heard their cries, and is coming to deliver them.

God promises to bring them to a land flowing with milk and honey (Canaan).

Then God calls Moses to be the one to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.

Moses' Objection and God’s Response (v.11–12):

Moses says, “Who am I?” to lead Israel out of Egypt.

God replies, “I will be with you,” and gives Moses a sign: after leading the people out, they will worship God on that very mountain (Sinai).

God Reveals His Name (v.13–15):

Moses asks what to say if the people ask who sent him.

God says, “I AM WHO I AM” (Hebrew: YHWH)—a declaration of His eternal, self-existent nature.

God instructs Moses to say, “I AM has sent me to you.”

God’s Instructions to Moses (v.16–22):

Moses is to gather the elders of Israel and tell them that God has appeared and plans to deliver them.

God predicts Pharaoh will not let the people go unless compelled by a mighty hand.

God promises to strike Egypt with wonders, and the Israelites will leave with favor and wealth from the Egyptians.

Key Themes:
God’s Calling and Presence:

God calls ordinary people (like Moses) and equips them with His presence, not just ability.

God Sees and Cares:

God sees, hears, and acts on behalf of His suffering people.

Holiness of God:

God’s presence makes the ordinary holy (e.g., the burning bush and the ground).

The Name of God – "I AM":

This reveals God as eternal, unchanging, and self-sufficient—the foundation of all existence.

Divine Mission with Human Partnership:

God works through people to accomplish His will but provides the power.

Application Points:
Don’t disqualify yourself—God uses humble, reluctant people to fulfill great purposes.

In every challenge or calling, God’s presence is enough: “I will be with you.”

When you're overwhelmed, trust God's plan and His name—"I AM" is everything we need.

God is still the One who hears, sees, and acts—take your burdens to Him.
