Dan 2:42
"And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of pottery, so some of the kingdom will be strong and part of it will be brittle.

The feet and toes made of iron and clay is the Muslim Empire. It has the toughness of iron in many ways. But it also has many weaknesses. It is definitely a divided kingdom. They do not get along well at all, but they are strong as iron when it comes to uniting under the Muslim faith and the false god of Allah.

Dan 2:43
"And in that you saw the iron mixed with common clay, they will combine with one another in the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, even as iron does not combine with pottery.

More attention is given to this last empire than to the other three put together. Four verses describe the last kingdom and only one verse is used to describe the Medio-Persian, the Graeco-Macedonian, and the Roman Empires. Let's look at the image again. It probably towered over the entire plain of Babylon as Nebuchudnezzar saw it in his vision. It is a multimetallic image. The head of gold represents Babylon. The breast and arms are silver which speaks of Media-Persia. The brass midsection speaks of the Graeco-Macedonian empire. The legs are of iron and that is Rome. In the feet, clay is inserted into the iron, which is the Muslim Empire. The image represents five world empires, and we can make several observations about them. There is a definite deterioration from one kingdom down to another and this is evident in several very specific ways. Look at the deterioration from one kingdom to the other. Each is inferior to the previous in a number of ways:
1. The quality of the metals. Gold is finer that silver. Silver is finer than brass. Brass is finer than iron. Iron is finer than clay. There is definite deterioration with each succeeding metal and down to clay.
2. The specific gravity, or density, decreases with each material as you examine it from first to last.
3. The position of each metal indicates a deterioration. The head is has more honor than do the feet.
4. The statement of scripture: "But after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to yours;" (v.39) Scripture is clear that each kingdom is inferior to the one before it.
5. The division of sovereignty. The definite division of power denotes weakness.

Nebuchudnezzar is the single head of gold. However, the Medio-Persian Empire is signified by the two arms. The Babylonian Empire was strong because it was not divided. The Graeco-Macedonian Empire starts out as one, but is divided into four parts. Rome has two legs of iron and was very strong in it's day. But it deteriorated into much of nothing. The Muslim Empire does not even have a leader except their religious belief. They are described with ten toes of iron mixed with clay.
