Daniel Defense H9...How bad could it be?

The Daniel Defense H9 has officially landed — and in this video, I take a no-holds-barred look at Daniel Defense’s first dive into the handgun world. I bought the H9 with my own money, and after spending serious time with it on the range, I’ve got a lot to say.

This compact, striker-fired 9mm brings 1911-inspired ergonomics to a modern alloy frame. It looks like a retro-futuristic sidearm straight out of a 1920s sci-fi comic — and when it runs, it runs beautifully. But unfortunately, I ran into some serious issues.

From failure-to-feed problems to magazines that wouldn’t lock the slide back, plus a frustrating optic plate situation that requires a separate order — this review dives into it all. I also mounted the Cyelee Wolf EDG enclosed emitter on it, which performed flawlessly despite the platform it was riding on (full review of that optic coming soon).

The design definitely stands out in a sea of polymer pistols, but with mounting frustrations and reliability concerns, the H9 has some hurdles to clear before I can give it a full recommendation.

Let me know in the comments if you’d like to see me put it up against another all-metal striker-fired option like the Fusion Firearms XF Pro.
