Handley Page Hampden Mk I X2996 flying with No. 44 Squadron RAF was on a mission over Germany on November 15th when it broke apart in mid air and came down on the outskirts of Berlin. Some sources quote it as being brought down by anti-aircraft fire while others suggest its own explosive payload might have detonated prematurely.

There entire crew of four was killed in action:
