Num 3:13
"For all the first-born are Mine; on the day that I struck down all the first-born in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself all the first-born in Israel, from man to beast. They shall be Mine; I am the LORD."

Originally, the firstborn was to be dedicated to the service of Elohim (Ex. 13:12-16). The tribe of Levi is now to be substituted in place of the firstborn in service to Elohim. Using a substitute is not new to Elohim (Gen. 22:13). This is a pattern that also points to the sacrifice that was substituted for many (Matt. 20:28). Elohim's plan allows for substitutions. A friend of mine asked me how Yeshua could now be our High Priest since He was from the tribe of Judah instead of the tribe of Levi (Heb. 5:5-10). We have the answer right here. The high priest and those in direct service dedicated to Elohim were originally to be the firstborn sons of all the people. But Elohim substituted the tribe of Levi for a time as we see here. But now our High Priest is the firstborn of all creation, just as Elohim originally intended (Col. 1:15-18). The substitute of the Levites as high priest was only temporary until it was time for the priesthood of Melchezidek, the priesthood of the firstborn.
