Genesis 26

God Confirms the Covenant with Isaac (v.1–6):

A famine strikes the land, and Isaac considers going to Egypt, but God tells him to stay in Gerar.

God reaffirms the Abrahamic covenant, promising land, descendants, and blessing through Isaac.

Isaac obeys and stays in Gerar, demonstrating trust in God's word.

Isaac Repeats Abraham’s Mistake (v.7–11):

Out of fear, Isaac lies to Abimelek, saying Rebekah is his sister.

Abimelek discovers the truth and rebukes him for nearly causing sin in the land.

Isaac is protected, showing God’s grace despite his failure.

God Prospers Isaac (v.12–16):

Isaac plants crops and receives a hundredfold harvest — a sign of God’s blessing.

His wealth grows so much that the Philistines become envious and ask him to leave.

Conflicts Over Wells (v.17–22):

Isaac re-digs the wells his father had dug, but locals quarrel over them.

He names them Esek (dispute), Sitnah (opposition), and finally Rehoboth (room), recognizing God’s provision and space to flourish.

God Appears to Isaac Again (v.23–25):

At Beersheba, God appears to Isaac and repeats His covenant promises.

Isaac builds an altar and worships — a sign of deepening faith.

Peace with Abimelek (v.26–33):

Abimelek returns to make peace with Isaac, recognizing that “the Lord is with you.”

They make a covenant of peace, and Isaac’s servants dig another well — Shibah (“oath”).

Esau’s Troubling Choices (v.34–35):

Esau marries two Hittite women, which causes grief to Isaac and Rebekah — foreshadowing future conflict and disappointment.
