Suspect in Vancouver vehicle attack that killed 11 was on ‘extended leave’ from mental health care

Kai-Ji Adam Lo, the man accused of driving into a crowded Filipino cultural festival in Vancouver and killing 11 people, was under mental health care and on “extended leave” at the time of the attack.

Authorities say he had a history of mental health issues but was not flagged as a safety risk.

The crash, which injured over two dozen others, occurred Saturday night and witnesses described a horrifying scene, NBC News has reported.

Lo was subdued by bystanders and is now charged with eight counts of second-degree murder, with more charges expected.
