The Buddha here is encouraging us to take a good look at oneself. Know oneself. Don't be kidding yourself and deceiving yourself. A lot of us have pride, but the Buddha is saying here, be humble, be honest, be humble, and know your limitations, and then strive continually to be the best version of ourselves we can be. That's it.
