Sacramento sheriff outraged over failure of AB 433.

A proposed bill aimed at altering punishments for certain defendants in California hit a roadblock Tuesday after the state's Assembly Public Safety Committee voted against advancing it.

According to the bill’s analysis on the state’s website, AB 433, sponsored by Assembly member Maggy Krell, excludes a person charged with any of the following from being considered by the court for mental health diversion: Child abuse and endangerment Inflicting cruel or inhuman corporal punishment on a child resulting in injury Assault of a child under 8 years of age resulting in death Human trafficking Any crime that causes great bodily injury.
