Discrimination against a Christian student
Discriminated for her Christian values, a teenage girl in the United States was not allowed to graduate from a public school in the state of Maryland because she did not attend an LGBT indoctrination course that was reported to be religiously discriminatory.
That is, for staying true to her principles—something that is neither science nor fact, but purely ideological—she was denied the opportunity to graduate alongside her classmates, despite her academic performance.
She had a GPA of 4.76, with 5 being the highest possible. Moreover, on the exams known as the SAT, she was in the top 96th percentile, meaning she was an outstanding and exceptional student.
However, she couldn't complete her studies because of ideology. Progressive, as they call it?
Some institutions would improve simply by being abolished and started over. The federal government and the American public school system come to mind.
According to Fox News, the family of a high-achieving Christian student—who was denied graduation due to her refusal to take what they described as an “LGBTQ+-affirming” and “religiously discriminatory” health course mandated by the Montgomery County Board of Education in overwhelmingly liberal Montgomery County, Maryland—has filed a petition with the Maryland Supreme Court in hopes of securing relief for their daughter as her senior year of high school nears its end.
The student, referred to by the outlet as “Jane,” earned a weighted GPA of 4.76. She also scored a 1450 (96th percentile) on the SAT.
However, in liberal Maryland—speaking of places that would benefit from a complete reset—that academic record seems to carry little weight. Only by kneeling at the altar of awareness may a student be allowed to graduate.
In the 2024 election, former Vice President Kamala Harris won over 75 percent of the vote in Montgomery County.
Harris lost, of course, but bitter liberals continue to hold Jane’s future hostage.
“She’s pretty upset about not being able to graduate with all her friends and experience that rite of passage,” Jane’s father said.
The controversy began in 2022, when Jane’s parents learned that her mandatory health class, unlike in previous years, would include LGBT content throughout the entire yearlong course, rather than limiting that content to the Family Life and Human Sexuality unit.
The parents objected.
They objected even more strongly when they discovered that alleged teacher training materials, in keeping with the Maoist-style approach that dominates much of modern education, identified “privileged” and “oppressed” groups—including, of course, Christians.
It’s ironic how no one in Montgomery County seems to see the hypocrisy. Jane, “privileged” because of her Christian beliefs, apparently can’t graduate because of them.
All efforts to resolve the dispute through alternative channels have failed.
Moreover, Jane’s parents did not object to the LGBT content in the Family Life and Human Sexuality unit. They objected to its inclusion throughout the entire course.
“We are attempting to get MCPS to limit that instruction to the Family Life and Human Sexuality section of the curriculum so we can be informed and opt our daughter out. If MCPS is allowed to extend LGBTQ+ instruction to the entire health class, as their teacher instructional materials suggest, then it stands to reason that MCPS should allow us to opt our daughter out of the entire class,” they wrote in a March 2024 letter to the Maryland State Board of Education. “We are attempting to get MCPS to refrain from religious discrimination.”
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has already begun hearing arguments in a separate religious freedom case involving Montgomery County.
In the short term, of course, one hopes that Jane finds the relief she clearly deserves. Denying graduation to a young high-achieving student over a bogus health course would be distressing even without the religious liberty issue. With that issue added to the equation, denying her graduation amounts to tyranny.
In the long term, however, the solution lies in dismantling the entire public school system. Keep public funding, but tear down every current institution that feasts on taxpayer money. Eliminate the certification system altogether, along with state departments and colleges of education.
Uproot it all. Then plant the seeds of a new system that serves students, not progressive ideology.
