Peter knew he was going to be martyred soon as he wrote his last two letters. Peter from personal experience warns us in Chapter 5:8 to be Sober and Vigilant; Because Our Adversary the Devil Walks about Like a Roaring Lion, Seeking Whom He May Devour.
