Cormorant hunts for fish in the crevices in Galapagos Islands
Cormorants are aquatic birds that hunt for fish underwater. A unique species of cormorant has evolved in the Galapagos Islands. The flightless cormorant has lost its ability to fly. They have evolved with smaller wings that can no longer carry them in the air. The flightless cormorant is incredibly agile in the water, no longer needing to take to the air. It glides through the water, using its feet for propulsion.
This cormorant checks under ledges and in crevices for prey. It feeds on fish, eels, octopus, or any other creature small enough to swallow. Casually swimming past a scuba diver with a camera, it moves with impressive speed. Cormorants can hold their breath for several minutes as they hunt, able to reach depths of well over 33m (100 feet) in their search for their food.
The rock in the last clip is a resting pace for several cormorants as well as a few penguins. With an adorable waddle, one of the penguins makes its way down the rock slope and into the water to do some hunting of its own.
