What Happens in 1 Kings 2?
As King David nears death, he gives Solomon final instructions: stay faithful to God’s commands and deal wisely with potential threats. After David dies, Solomon immediately faces unfinished business—people loyal to Adonijah and others who could undermine his rule.

Solomon acts decisively:

Adonijah, who once tried to steal the throne, asks for a royal favor—and is executed for overstepping again.

Joab, David’s old general who betrayed him, is put to death.

Shimei, who cursed David in the past, is warned to stay put. When he breaks his word, Solomon has him executed too.

By the end of the chapter, Solomon has removed all threats, and his kingdom is firmly established.
