John Lennon Mind (Kontrol) Games: Magick, Mysteries and Machinations.

Coinciding with 2024’s re-issue of John Lennon’s 1973 ‘Mind Games’ album in box-set form came the release of a book of the same name, and as you would expect, it focuses in on the making of the songs that were released on the LP, featuring interviews with the principle musicians who played on the tracks as well as the backing vocalists, and there’s archived contributions from the former Beatle explaining what each song is about.

The book also documents various aspects of John’s life during that period, as well as of his wife’s Yoko Ono, and it also dips back to earlier times including, what he describes as, the ‘blossoming’ of his “revolutionary period” between 1971-’72, when he aligned himself with so-called ‘radical’ activists upon coming to stay in the US. So, this weighty tome, totalling 288 pages, is not merely about ‘the Making of’ an album.

Why I’m mentioning it here – and why I’ve produced a 3 hour-plus video presentation about it – is because of some of what it focuses in on, including John’s (and Yoko’s) interest and active participation in the occult. Actually, considering that this is an officially-sanctioned book, I’m a little surprised that it’s as revealing as it is, sharing with the readers archive material that clearly shows the music-star making references to, the one and only, Aleister Crowley. For years, various podcasters, researchers, authors, and commentators within the so-called ‘alternative’ realms of media have theorised on the Beatles’ links to the so-called ‘great beast,’ most of which has been based on guess-work – after all, collectively, John, Paul, George, and Ringo weren’t entirely forthcoming or vocal in their acknowledgement of this notorious occultist, any reference on their part, as a band, was unspoken, understated. But, now here, in the ‘Mind Games’ book, we have some solid information to add credence to that guessing. Also highlighted within its pages, but not so much of a secret, is the Lennons’ application of numerology, astrology and the I Ching in their daily lives, and their proactive interest in ancient Egyptian artefacts. A lot of this is mentioned in my video, where I take it further on – quite a bit further on as I do with other themes explored in the book including John’s “revolutionary period,” being surveilled by the FBI, and battling deportation from the US. I also flag-up UFOs and space aliens, alleged CIA shills, and the ‘one world order.’ A bit of what I talk about in the presentation, I’ve shared elsewhere before in previous articles, podcasts and videos over the months and years, including the uncanny connections between The Beatles, Lennon, and 1968’s ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ movie, and the possibility that John was in fact a victim of mind (k)ontrol. The ‘Mind Games’ book has presented new information that compliments all of that, and I’ve slotted it all together in my video, which I began producing, recording and editing in October ’24 through to April this year.
