Archaeologists in Barcelona have uncovered the remains of a large medieval boat, believed to have sunk 500-600 years ago, while excavating the site of a former fish market.

The vessel, found 5 meters below sea level, measures 10 meters long and 3 meters wide, with more than 30 curved wooden ribs.

The boat likely sank during a storm in the 15th or 16th century, when this part of the city was still underwater.

The discovery, named Ciutadella I, is crucial for understanding medieval boat construction, The Guardian has reported.

Experts will preserve the fragile remains and analyze the materials to determine its origin.
