Ross Chastain's Wallride
The wallride — where a driver deliberately rides the outside wall to gain speed — was banned by NASCAR in 2023 after Ross Chastain’s famous move at Martinsville in October 2022. Chastain floored his car along the wall on the final lap to gain several spots and qualify for the Championship 4. While the move was legal at the time and created a huge buzz, NASCAR quickly realized it raised major safety concerns and went against the spirit of fair competition. Ahead of the 2023 season, they announced that similar moves would be penalized under existing rules covering unsafe driving and actions detrimental to stock car racing
