Sabbath Day - Rest or Work

The message on April 27, 2025 was on the Sabbath day. We learned how to approach this topic from a right division perspective because there are some cults that take all that pertains to the sabbath day and lay it upon you. Wayne started in Matthew 5:17-20 KJV looking at how the lord came to fulfill certain aspect of the law. Some of the law had to be fulfilled like that of prophecy. We then learned of the progressive nature of scriptural truth with a chart that identified three categories. The first category is the Gospels, and that was for the Jew only as stated in Matthew 5:19 KJV “19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven..” The second category is the Acts, and it was for the Jew first (Acts 1:12; 13:14,27,42,44;15:21;16:13;17:2;18:4) In Acts 17:2 KJV we see “2 …Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures.” The third category is the Prison Books, and this column identified the “new man” as said in Ephesians 2:15 KJV “15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;” So we are instructed to pay attention to the context of the sabbath day and what its role is in each period. We then looked at three passages where Jesus is teaching of the relationship of man to the sabbath day (Matt. 12:1-9; Mk. 2:27-28, and Matt. 11:28-30 KJV). Wayne took us back to Genesis 2:1-3 where the Sabbath was defined “2 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”. We then backed up to see the “evening and the morning” from Genesis 1:5,8,13,19,23,31. Wayne then took us through Exodus 20:8-11; 31:12-17 and Hebrews 4:1-11 KJV. In summary, we learned that the Sabbath Day was a shadow and in the post Acts, prison epistle, PAul tells us in Colossians 2:16-17 KJV “16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.” In this dispensation from the Mystery, we have the substance, which is the new man in Christ.

The scripture reading was from Hebrews 4:1-11 KJV “1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: 7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.”
