Hanging the magnets from the very top at the swivel has a number of advantages. For one it is easy to see that the magnets are free to rotate. Secondly it greatly reduces vibration. Finally, thirdly, the weight of the magnets does not load the N20 motor so there is much less friction there.

In the video I say the magnets are 1 inch diameter by 1 inch n50 neo magnets but they are actually n52.

I still feel this is fair to have the magnets on top as the motor is turning against the magnetic torque of the powerful magnets in Earth's magnetic field.

I learned recently that Earth's magnetic moment is 6.4 x 10^22 Ampere Meters squared. By comparison a bowling ball size neo magnet of the strongest possible grade has a magnetic moment of 5937 Ampere Meters squared.

Ampere meters squared is a measure of how a magnet will behave in a magnetic field or near another magnet. How it will attract or have torque.

I saw an article on Physics Stackexchange that calculates the magnetic attraction between the Earth and the Sun to be roughly 5 Newtons. Torque would be that times 2 times the radius of Earth so probably around 10 million Newtons. However as we have seen while attraction is q1q2/d^2, torque is q1q2/d (not squared) so it is possibly that that 10 million Newtons might then have tacked onto it some odd 11 more zeros. Imagine a thing like that!

Stay tuned:)
