Episode 169 - MLK: COINTELPRO Gets Its Man (Part V)

COINTELPRO - the FBI's equivalent to the the CIA's Operation Chaos - was an effort by the FBI to ratfuck organizations it deemed "subversive", discrediting them and their leaders in the process. In this context, we examine the civil rights and anti-war movements that were targeted and their leaders who were killed.
This is not a theoretical exercise. According to FBI documents uncovered in the 1970's during the Church Committee hearings, the FBI was actively involved in "surveilling, infiltrating, and disrupting American political organizations...discrediting targets through psychological warfare; smearing individuals and groups using forged documents and by planting false reports in the media; harassment; wrongful imprisonment; illegal violence; and ASSASSINATION."
