Spiral - The Harry Roche Constellation (1973)
From 1973 -
Clare Torrey on vocals and Bobby Lamb on trombone.
'Spiral' and it's successor, 'Sometimes' considered the last great UK psychedelic albums.
The line-up consists of seven trombones (including Don Lusher), one trumpet, one saxophone (the great Roy Willox), percussion and various keyboards - a large musical personnel listing, yet It was completely overlooked when it was first released and quickly deleted, hence original copies of 'Spiral' have long been the holy grail for collectors, changing hands for ridiculous amounts of money.
This album although often associated with Blaxploitation crosses over into 70's jazz fusion - lounge genre where 'Spiral' is right up there with Roy Budd's "Get Carter" score. The famous title track features the vocals of Claire Torrey, who would later contribute vocals of Pink Floyd's track, 'The Great Gig in the Sky' from their seminal album, 'Dark Side Of The Moon' of the same year.
