100s of Mesa Parents Question Problematic Education Overhaul

Mesa Public Schools is experimenting with ‘Academies’, an unproven learning model that focuses on providing teachers a better work experience rather than students and student achievement. Students are being forced to learn in these academy models despite objections that they don’t suit all learning styles, provide rigor, or have curriculum that was Governing Board approved.

MPS has also implemented block scheduling hoping to provide more total classes without adding time to the day. But they’ve removed A hour, added a ‘mandatory’ class, and increased the cost for distance learning programs causing students’ schedules less flexible, forcing them to choose between sports, music, seminary, or EVIT.

Confused at these self-imposed changes that cost more than a traditional approach, 100s of parents have approached school leaders, District Superintendency, and the Governing Board for clarification only to be turned away without answers.
