Messiah's Praiseworthy Women EP12 - Actions Refine Identity

Earlier this April, our beloved sister Sherry passed away from her battle with cancer. During her long ordeal, she was rendered unable to speak. But that didn't erase who she was. She continued to share the wonderful person of faith she was by her actions and behavior. The painful trial, and how she dealt with it, brought out the strength of her faith in God and her hope for the Remnant Exodus. It got me thinking about the role our actions play in forming and affirming our identity.

In this month's meeting we discuss how actions refine identity. I've been seeing this theme play out in my life and the lives of those around me as YHWH works in us. As we work out His will in our life by our actions and conduct, we learn more about who we are in Him. He strips away the ideas of the world and our own false assumptions, and re-builds us into the spiritual warrior for the Kingdom He made us to be.

Looking to Scripture at each of the men and women of faith, I see this theme repeated. Step by step, putting their faith to action, each one of them grew into the fullness of their identity as a result of their continuous choice to act on their faith. Even their mistakes and miss-steps guided them away from adopting the wrong identity. YHWH used their actions to teach them about life and themselves and to bring them to a better understanding of their identity in Him.

We get to choose who we are in eternity by the actions we take today. We get to follow Messiah with actions that show our faith and prove that His resurrection life is at work in us. We each get to seize our place in the Kingdom with intention by relentlessly pursuing the path that He lays before us. That is why God doesn't want to do it all on His own. Because if He did it all own His own, we wouldn't have the chance to choose to become the kinds of people we need to become in order to do it with Him. We wouldn't truly ever know who we are. We wouldn't know who our brothers and sisters are. And we would never know the depth of His love for us and those around us anywhere near as much. Because He could never show it to us so clearly as He does when we're trying to walk it out by putting our feet to our faith.
