So Many Fountains In Rome! Here's Why

Have you ever wondered why there is so many many fountains in rome, well i did on my last trip there, heres what i discovered,
Originally, it goes back to the ancient Roman obsession with water. They built incredible aqueducts that brought fresh water from faraway sources into the city. Once they had all that water flowing in, they needed places for it to go — not just for drinking, but also for bathing, public use, and beauty. Fountains were a practical way to distribute water throughout the city.
Later on, during the Renaissance and Baroque periods, the fountains became more about art and power. Popes and wealthy families competed to build the most extravagant fountains as a flex — like, "Look how rich and powerful we are, and how we control this magical, life-giving water!"
So, in short: first it was about function (getting water to people), and later it became about art, politics, and prestige.
