SCRIPTURE READING FOR TODAY
Gen 35:4-5

4 So they gave Jacob all their pagan idols and earrings, and he buried them under the great tree near Shechem.
5 As they set out, a terror from God spread over the people in all the towns of that area, so no one attacked Jacob’s family.

The Word of God To Meditate On Today
Gen 35:4-5 - Jacob's Family Repents & Cleanses Up
Notice that it was not God who told Jacob to cleanse his own house, but Jacob felt that was the right thing to do. He ordered his house to do so, he took his responsibility. Only then could there be a going up to the house of the Lord - Bethel. A lot more had entered Jacob’s family than just the idols of Rachel (Gen_31:30-34 ). All the idols and also the earrings – in this case this speaks of listening to things we like to hear – were brought to Jacob and he buried them. Here we see the oak as a picture of the cross. That is where we should bury our idols. For us this means that we confess before God what in our lives has been given a place next to or instead of Him and see that the Lord Jesus has borne the judgment for it. May you receive the grace to cleanse-up in Jesus' name!

Personal Supplication
Father, by the Blood of Jesus, I turn away from every idol and things that defile and turn to You fully in Jesus' name! Ps 119:37

37 Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, And revive me in Your way.

Weekly Protection Covenant Declaration
Because I dwell in the secret place of the most High, I Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: My God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver me from the snare of the fowler, And from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover me with his feathers, And under his wings shalt I trust: His truth shall be my shield and buckler. I shall not be afraid for the terror by night; Nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness; Nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, And ten thousand at thy right hand; But it shall not come nigh thee throughout this week in Jesus' name!

Only with my eyes shalt I behold And see the wicked receive their rewards. Because I have made the LORD, my refuge, Even the most High, my habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For God shall give his angels charge over thee, To keep thee in all my ways. They shall bear me up in their hands, Lest I dash thy foot against a stone. I shall tread upon the lion and adder: The young lion and the dragon shalt I trample under feet. Because I have set my love upon God, therefore will He deliver me: He will set him on high, because I have known His name. I shall call upon Him, and He will answer me: He will be with me in trouble; He will deliver me, and honour me. With long life will God satisfy me, And shew me His salvation. So shall it be for me and my household throughout this week in Jesus' name!
