Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov set off diplomatic shockwaves on April 24, telling CBS News that the Kremlin is "ready to reach a deal" with the US on Ukraine, though he also said some elements need to be "fine-tuned."
Lavrov also said that US President Donald Trump is “probably the only leader on Earth” who understands the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis. According to Lavrov, Trump believes pulling Ukraine toward NATO was a “huge mistake” — blaming the Biden administration — and says Trump wants to “rectify it.”
This bold claim came just hours after Russia launched its deadliest assault on Kyiv in months, killing 12. And yet, Lavrov insists: “We only strike military targets or civilian sites used for military purposes.”
