"When we let go of clinging and aversion, we find the peace that has always been within us."
-Thich Nhat Hanh, in his book The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching

Lama Dawa Zangpo’s Commentary:
Letting go of attachment and aversion or attraction and aversion, we find peace. Peace that's always been with us. This is very important and we can thank Thich Nhat Hanh for reminding us and pointing out that peace has always been within us. Contentment is there, it just gets shoved to the side when we want something. The contentment is still there, but it is lost in the shuffle of attraction and aversion. If we drop the attraction and aversion to things, the contentment comes right back. It's always been there. It's allowed to reveal itself back to us. And we realize, oh, we've always been there. We've always been content. It's just been temporarily put on hold as we pursue other agendas. True peace and happiness comes from dropping our agendas. Not as easy as it sounds, but very effective.
