Giant mantas surround thrilled divers in Galapagos Islands

Giant mantas are incredible creatures. With a wingspan of more than 5m (16 feet), they inspire awe in anyone who sees one close up. These lucky scuba divers found themselves in the middle of hundreds of them in a sheltered bay in the Galapagos Islands. The mantas were looping and rolling, a behaviour that is believed to be part of courtship.
Highly intelligent and curious animals, they will occasionally allow scuba divers to approach and observe them close up. In some cases, mantas will even come close and inspect the divers with curiosity. A close look at such beautiful animals is an unforgettable experience.
