In the Marvel storyline, many observe a counter-biblical twist surrounding Thanos. By snapping his fingers and erasing half of all life, he effectively stages a type of “rapture,” with those remaining forced to navigate a post-apocalyptic reality. His proclamation—“I am inevitable”—echoes the scriptural phrase “I AM,” often identified with the Hebrew name of God (Yahweh) from the burning bush encounter in Exodus.

Meanwhile, Thor’s defeat—being struck down and humiliated by Thanos—resembles the imagery of lightning from heaven, which some associate with the biblical fall of Lucifer. This inversion can be viewed as flipping divine motifs: God’s role in biblical eschatology becomes woven into Thanos, portrayed as the villain, thereby reshaping watchful audiences’ perceptions.

Those who see symbolic manipulation at play argue that such reversals sow confusion—a cinematic “as above, so below” inversion—turning sacred themes on their head. In doing so, the studio (and broader system) might be leveraging chaos for its own narrative power, reframing the spiritual storyline while audiences passively absorb the moral shift onscreen.
