The Democrats’ open-borders agenda has reached alarming new heights in Minnesota. In 2025, the state will not only allow illegal immigrants to stay without consequence—it will pay them to do so. Through MinnesotaCare, each illegal immigrant will receive up to $7,000 in taxpayer-funded benefits. That’s right: illegal immigrants are now eligible for healthcare coverage, completely funded by Minnesota taxpayers.

So far, over 17,000 illegal immigrants have enrolled in the program for fiscal year 2025. That alone translates to at least $107 million in just one year—and that figure is expected to balloon past $600 million as the program grows.

This egregious misuse of taxpayer funds was celebrated by progressive lawmakers as “healthcare equity.” In reality, it is a slap in the face to hardworking Minnesotans who struggle to afford healthcare, pay rising taxes, and watch public services decline while those who broke the law to enter the country get free benefits.

This policy sends the wrong message: come to the U.S. illegally and be rewarded. Why should a law-abiding veteran or struggling working-class family be forced to fund healthcare for those who violated our border laws?

With this law, Minnesota becomes a magnet for more illegal immigration, luring thousands more who will come expecting similar handouts. It’s not just misguided generosity—it’s self-destructive governance. The financial burden will only grow, and it will fall squarely on the shoulders of American citizens.

Rather than strengthening our borders and upholding the rule of law, Democrats are encouraging exploitation of the system. This is the reality of progressive policy: legal Americans are penalized while illegal immigrants are pampered.
