Hagar didn’t just meet an angel—she met God in person. The one who spoke to her was called the Angel of the LORD, but He didn’t speak like a servant. He spoke as God, promising to multiply her descendants, naming her son, and comforting her pain. Hagar knew it—she called Him “El Roi,” the God who sees me. She said, “I have seen the One who sees me.” This wasn’t just a messenger. This was God, face to face.

This “Angel of the LORD” shows up many times in the Old Testament. In Genesis 22, He stops Abraham from sacrificing Isaac and says, “You did not withhold your son from Me.” That means He is God, yet He’s also distinct from God the Father. In Exodus 3, Moses sees the burning bush, and the Angel of the LORD appears, yet the voice says, “I am the God of your fathers.”

This is the Trinity—one God in three persons. The Father in heaven, the Son appearing as the Angel of the LORD, and the Holy Spirit working behind the scenes. All eternal, all divine, all one God. That’s not Islam. That’s Christianity from the start.

Bible Verses (ESV):

Genesis 16:13 – "You are a God of seeing... Truly here I have seen him who looks after me."
- Hagar says she saw God with her own eyes.

Genesis 22:12 – "You have not withheld your son from me."
- The Angel speaks as if He is God.

Exodus 3:2-6 – "The Angel of the LORD appeared to him... God called to him from the bush."
- The Angel and God are the same person, yet distinct.
