The Request for a Table Spread from Heaven

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu.

Brothers, sisters, friends and elders, we welcome you to the 32 episode of the Islamic informative videos based on healing and incidents from the Holy Quran. In this video, we will described: The Request for a Table Spread from Heaven

The Miracle of the Table Spread, known in Islamic tradition as *Al-Ma’idah*, is one of the most remarkable and profound events in the life of Prophet Isa (AS) and his disciples. This event, which is narrated in the Qur’an in Surah Al-Ma’idah verse 112–115, highlights not only the power of Allah but also the deep faith and the bond between Isa (AS) and his followers. The story is set during a time when the disciples, despite their unwavering belief in Isa (AS), asked for a divine sign to reaffirm their faith and to strengthen their trust in the message he was delivering. This request led to one of the most extraordinary miracles in the life of the Prophet, a sign of divine support that would nourish their bodies and spirits alike.

The event began when the disciples, seeing the miraculous acts performed by Isa (AS) and hearing his calls to follow the path of righteousness, sought a tangible, divine confirmation. They asked Isa (AS) to request from Allah a *ma’idah* — a table spread with food from heaven. This was not a mere request for food, but rather a plea for a miraculous sign that would fortify their faith and demonstrate the support of Allah for Isa’s (AS) mission. The Qur'an narrates the disciples’ words to Isa (AS), Quran said in Surah Al-Ma’idah verse 112 “Is your Lord able to send down for us a table spread [with food] from heaven?” . Their request was one of faith, asking for something extraordinary to further confirm their belief in Isa (AS) as a true messenger of God.

Isa (AS) responded to his disciples by cautioning them, reminding them of the responsibility that would come with such a request. He said, “Fear Allah, if you are indeed believers” (surah al maidah verse 113). The disciples, however, remained steadfast in their request, urging Isa (AS) to ask Allah for the miracle, believing that it would be a sign of divine mercy and strength. After receiving this request, Isa (AS) prayed to Allah, asking for the table spread to be sent down. Allah, in His infinite mercy and wisdom, granted their plea, but with a profound warning. He declared that the table spread would indeed descend, but if any of them rejected or disbelieved in the signs of Allah after receiving this miraculous food, they would face severe consequences. Allah said in surah almaidah verse 115, "I will send it down to you, but whoever of you disbelieves afterwards, I will punish him with a punishment such as I have not inflicted on anyone among the worlds" .

In response to the prayer of Isa (AS), Allah caused a table spread to descend from heaven, laden with food. The feast was a symbol of Allah’s providence and care for His servants, offering them sustenance not only for their bodies but also as a means of reinforcing their faith. This table spread was not just a physical provision, but also a spiritual sign, a gift from Allah to help His believers remain steadfast in their devotion and trust in Him. The miracle of the table spread was not merely about the food itself but about the larger message it conveyed — that true faith is anchored in trust in Allah’s power and mercy.

The disciples ate from the table spread, yet the event served as a reminder of the profound responsibility of faith. While the food was a sign of Allah’s grace, the warning of punishment for any disbelief afterward echoed strongly. Allah’s generosity was clear, but so was His justice. The event reinforced the idea that miracles and signs are meant to strengthen one’s faith and not to serve as mere materialistic rewards.

In conclusion, the story of the Table Spread from heaven is a significant event in the life of Isa (AS) and his disciples. It underscores the importance of faith and the power of divine intervention. The miracle not only provided sustenance but also served as a powerful reminder of the connection between Allah and His messengers, and the deep responsibility of believers to stay true to their faith. The disciples’ request, and the ensuing miracle, highlight the role of divine signs in affirming belief, while also emphasizing that the blessings of Allah are not to be taken for granted. The event is a timeless reminder of the balance between divine grace and the accountability of faith.

With this, we ask for your permission until tomorrow and pray to Allah Almighty to grant us the ability to act on the Quran and Hadith, Amen
