Trump maintains 145% China tariffs, says potential reductions depend on Beijing’s actions

Despite putting the brakes on his initial tariff approach this week – a move prompted by the unstable, volatile global economy in which his tariffs resulted – U.S. President Donald Trump is maintaining his 145 per cent tariffs on China.

On the potential of reducing said tariffs, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office Wednesday that it would depends on Beijing’s actions.

Last Wednesday, Trump made the decision to pause global tariffs for 90 days on all countries except China, Canada, and Mexico.

Though the Republican leader said since he imposed the levy “China is [basically] not doing any business” with the U.S., he claims his relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping is a good one.
