Resurrection Sunday 2025, Ought Not the Christ to Have Suffered These Things? Luke 24:1-47

On this Resurrection Sunday 2025, Pastor Kevin reminds us that Jesus died on the Jewish Feast of Passover, fulfilling God’s promise of deliverance from spiritual death for those who believe in Him. He arose from the grave three days later on Jewish Feast of First Fruits as a guarantee of the believers’ future resurrection to eternal life. “But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Corinthians 15:20 NKJV).
Starting with the resurrection account in Luke 24, Pastor Kevin explains the reasons for the apparent differences between the four gospel accounts and shows how Jesus’ death and resurrection fulfilled many Old Testament prophecies. Despite these prophecies and Jesus’ many miracles, most people, even His own disciples, failed to recognize that He was the prophesied Messiah. Their own expectations and pride kept them from seeing that the Christ must die to make a way for sinful man to be forgiven. “Then He said to them, ‘O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory’" (Luke 24:25-26 NKJV)?
Today, may we receive understanding from God to more fully understand the Scriptures and believe that the Christ suffered and died so that we might receive life in His name.
