Imagine if they fought this hard for hurricane victims, fire victims, and homeless veterans
While thousands of Americans struggle to survive the aftermath of devastating hurricanes, wildfires that have wiped out entire communities, and a homelessness crisis that disproportionately affects our veterans, the political establishment seems more preoccupied with international cases of questionable urgency. One such case is the growing political focus on an American detained in El Salvador—while those truly in need at home are left behind.
A recent interview revealed that the Salvadoran government has rejected formal requests from the U.S. Embassy to contact the detained citizen, Mr. Ábrego Ábrego García. Despite the embassy’s official request for access, it was flatly denied. This has prompted an internal push for answers, with Senator Marco Rubio being urged to step in and provide clarity. Ábrego García’s family remains in the dark, anxiously asking: where is he?
The central concern, according to U.S. representatives, is Ábrego García’s health. There are fears that he is not receiving the medical treatment he needs. While there are rumors that he’s been transferred to a facility with better conditions, no official confirmation has been provided.
This raises a serious question: why is so much political energy being spent on this case, while millions of American citizens suffer in silence? Families in Maui are still waiting for effective relief after the fires. Communities in Florida and Louisiana remain abandoned following hurricane devastation. Our nation’s veterans—men and women who fought for our freedoms—continue to sleep on sidewalks in cities like San Francisco, New York, and Chicago.
Where are the political caravans demanding justice for them? Where are the congressional emergency hearings about why so many veterans lack adequate housing and medical care? Where are the fiery speeches in Congress on behalf of single mothers who lost everything to a natural disaster? The uncomfortable truth is that the priorities of many in power are completely disconnected from the needs of ordinary Americans.
This double standard is exactly what fuels the frustration of millions of patriots across the country. This is not about being indifferent to human rights abroad—it’s about demanding that the same energy, the same urgency, be directed first and foremost toward our own people.
America must refocus on Americans. Our elected leaders should fight this hard—or harder—for hurricane victims, fire victims, and especially the veterans who risked everything for this country. Anything less is a silent betrayal of the very principles on which this great nation was founded.
